What homeowners say

Warranty

What does the Rhino Shield warranty cover?

Every Rhino Shield job carries a 25-year, non-prorated, transferable warranty against chipping, flaking and peeling. In Florida, service labor is covered at no cost for the full 25 years.

Material: 25 years, everywhere

The manufacturer supplies replacement coating for any defect for 25 years, shipped at no cost. It transfers to the next owner if you sell.

Labor: set by your dealer, in writing

Each dealer sets its labor coverage. Ask for it in writing and read it before you sign. Our largest market, Florida, covers labor for all 25 years.

"Rhino Shield of Florida warrants any service labor will be provided at no cost to the buyer for a period of twenty-five (25) years."Rhino Shield of Florida warranty, October 2026 edition
"To have a 25-year warranty on a paint job and never having to do that again, there's a lot of value in it."
Ryan Adams, owner

What it does not cover is written out too: normal fading, structural movement, storm damage, pre-existing rust or water intrusion, and horizontal surfaces such as gutters and railings. Read the full Florida warranty before you buy (PDF).

Independent testing

What tests should back a 25- or 30-year warranty?

Any company can print a 25- or 30-year warranty. Independent test results are how you know whether the coating can actually last that long.

A coating that lasts decades on a Florida home has to stretch without cracking, stay stuck to the wall, keep out wind-driven rain, resist mold and salt air, and let moisture escape. Each of those can be measured by an accredited lab using an ASTM standard. Rhino Shield's results are below, with the full 27-page Testing Book free to download.

So ask any company offering a long warranty for these same results. If a company can't show you high scores on these tests, how can it promise its coating will last 30 years? Here is ours next to what Home Shield Coating®, a competitor that wrote about us, has made public.

"From the quality of the product and the chemistry of it itself to the actual performance on your home, we have to demonstrate to you, the homeowner, that we are worth what we're asking for."

Ownership

Who owns Rhino Shield?

Rhino Shield is made by AmCoat Industrial, a family and veteran owned company. Its owners are Ryan Adams, Brian Ley and Jason Crawford.

They bought the company to build it for the long term. AmCoat also owns and runs Rhino Shield of Florida itself, so in Florida, the company that makes your coating is the company that backs your warranty. The Rhino Shield group has been making and testing this coating since 2001, and seven of today's dealers have been in business for more than 20 years.

A note from the owner

I'm Ryan Adams. I served more than a decade as an Army infantry officer, most of it in the 75th Ranger Regiment, and I bought Rhino Shield of Florida in June 2023. What drew me to it was the quality of the product. It performs really well. Today I own AmCoat Industrial, the company that makes Rhino Shield, with my two partners, and Rhino Shield of Florida is our company-owned store. We are family and veteran owned. We are going to do the right thing for the customer, provide great service, and do what we say we are going to do, all the way through to the day you call us and we fulfill a warranty obligation. We are building this company for the long haul, to create raving fans with results designed to last, not just look good.

Dealer standards

How does Rhino Shield hold its dealers accountable?

AmCoat grades every Rhino Shield dealer, and reputation is one of the heaviest parts of that grade. Dealers who do not uphold the brand's standards lose the right to sell Rhino Shield.

Over the years, a few dealers have had their dealer agreements taken away. When that happens, AmCoat replaces them with a dealer who will meet the standard. In Florida, for example, the Orlando and Tampa markets are now served by Rhino Shield of Florida, which AmCoat owns and runs itself.

That is why you will find closed dealer companies in state business records. A closed dealer is a standard being enforced. Over the last five years, AmCoat has rebuilt its network around dealers with strong reputations, and the ratings table above shows the result.

When Rhino Shield of Florida took over Orlando and Tampa, it also helped the previous dealers' customers with their warranty issues. A homeowner should never be left on their own because a dealer was replaced.

"Integrity is at the top of ours. It's a non-negotiable: outside, inside, internally. We have to be a values-driven organization."
Ryan Adams, owner

Is it worth it?

Is Rhino Shield worth it?

For homeowners who plan to stay, usually yes. Rhino Shield costs more up front than paint, but it is warrantied for 25 years against chipping, flaking and peeling, while exterior paint is typically redone every 4 to 6 years.

It is worth it when you want to stop repainting, your walls take hard Florida sun, rain and humidity, and you want a warranty that transfers to the next owner if you sell. It may not be worth it if you plan to sell within a year or two and only need a fresh coat for the listing. Either way, ask for the written warranty and the test results before you decide.

Problems and complaints

What problems do homeowners report with Rhino Shield?

The problems homeowners report most often are peeling or cracking where a surface was not prepared well, color fading over time, and trouble getting help from a dealer that closed. Here is how each one is handled.

  • Peeling or cracking from prep. Every job follows the same 11-step process, starting with repairs to rotted wood, cracked stucco and loose paint. Chipping, flaking and peeling of the coating are covered by the 25-year warranty, with labor included in Florida.
  • Fading. All exterior coatings lose some color with years of sun, and no warranty in the industry covers normal fading. We say so in writing, and lighter colors fade the least.
  • A dealer that closed. AmCoat grades every dealer on reputation and replaces the ones that fall short. In Florida, the replacement helped the previous dealers' customers with their warranty issues.

Every Rhino Shield dealer's reviews are linked in the table above, so you can read the good and the bad for the dealer in your area.

Complaint sites

What about Rhino Shield complaints?

PissedConsumer lists 63 rated reviews of Rhino Shield, collected over many years from customers of dealers nationwide. Google lists 2,710 reviews of those same dealers, averaging 4.7 stars.

Complaint sites collect complaints by design, and any company that has coated thousands of homes has some. Read both, then look up your own dealer in the table above. That dealer's record is the one that matters for your home.

Before you sign

How do I check any coating company?

Ask every company the same five questions, and only count the answers you can verify.

  1. Reviews you can click. How many Google reviews, collected over how many years?
  2. A BBB profile. What grade, and is it accredited?
  3. The written warranty. Can you read it before you sign? How many years of labor, in writing?
  4. Published test data. Is there a data sheet or test report from accredited labs?
  5. Years in business. For the company that will be on your property, not just the brand.

A warranty is only as good as the company behind it.

We agree with that. So check the record behind any long warranty. A company in business for 26 years with 46 Google reviews has averaged fewer than two reviewed jobs a year. A 30-year promise should come with a 30-year record you can read. Ours is in the table above, one click per dealer.

Cost

How much does Rhino Shield cost?

Rhino Shield costs more than a paint job up front. It is built to last 25 years, while exterior paint is typically redone every 4 to 6 years. Your exact price comes from a free on-site estimate.

What sets the price

  • Size and surface area. Larger homes need more material and labor.
  • Complexity. Multiple stories, balconies and detailed trim take more time.
  • Surface condition. Rotted wood, cracked stucco and peeling paint are repaired before coating.
  • The 11-step application. Prep, repairs, primer and coating, done by trained applicators.
  • Extras such as more than one color and garage doors.

What your free estimate includes

  • An on-site inspection of your home
  • The surface prep and repairs your home needs
  • Material and labor costs, itemized
  • The written warranty for your job
  • Financing options

The 25-year math

Repainting every 4 to 6 years means four to six paint jobs over the life of one Rhino Shield warranty, each with its own prep, labor and disruption. Rhino Shield is applied once and warrantied for 25 years against chipping, flaking and peeling, and it transfers to the next owner if you sell.
